This is the tenderest part of my work, and the one I hold most carefully. Speaking with animals near the end of their lives, I've noticed that certain messages return again and again — not as words, exactly, but as a settled kind of knowing.
Most often, what comes through is reassurance. That they are not afraid in the way we fear they are. That they feel the love around them. That they do not want their person frozen by guilt over timing or decisions made with care.
I offer this gently, and never as a substitute for your own heart or your veterinarian's guidance. Every animal is their own being. But if there is a common thread, it is this: they seem far more at peace with the threshold than we are — and they would like us to be a little more at peace too.
